Even though you’re desperate to lose or maintain weight, eating disorders are not the way to do so. Whether you believe it or not, eating disorders can destroy your body as well as your smile. In fact, they can harm you in a myriad of ways. This is why it’s strongly encouraged to avoid developing eating disorders altogether as well as quit the eating disorder if you have one. If you do have an eating disorder, it’s important to take care of your smile while you are working on eliminating it from your life. To help you do so, Dr. Barry Kinney and our dental team have some tips for you.
First, regularly clean your smile and keep up on oral hygiene. Make sure you brush your chompers every morning and every night, floss your teeth once a day, and rinse your mouth daily. While you do these things, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, a flossing product of your choice, and antibacterial mouthwash.
Second, rinse your mouth. After throwing up, even though it might be tempting, please do not brush your teeth. Brushing will only further erode the enamel. Instead, rinse your mouth with baking soda to neutralize the effects of the acid in the bile.
Third, see Dr. Barry Kinney. It’s very important that you visit him every six months. The appointments will allow our team to deeply clean your smile and prevent as many dental issues as possible. Our dental team will also have the tips and tricks you need to keep your smile in top-notch condition.
